2011 Year End Report
The HUT Youth Development Center provided over 5125 hours of service touching the lives of more than 150 area youth in 2011. This is a 51% increase in service from 2010.
POSITIVE EXPERIENCES
The HUT provided tutoring services through COMET Club after school program. Youth were also provided service learning projects and opportunities for job training at the Lions Field Pool Concession Stand. HUT programming is based on scientifically researched strategies and programs that have been proven effective. While 1 in 5 children in the nation are going hungry the HUT ensures participants are provided with plentiful and healthy snacks. Summer programming includes the opportunity to select from mini courses that correspond with their areas of interest.
POSITIVE RELATIONSHIPS
The HUT is committed to providing youth, parents, and community members with access to supports. Through parent training opportunities, assisting families in accessing services, and mentoring youth participants the HUT is able to impact the quality of life of Charles City youth and families.
POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT
A safe nurturing environment is crucial to youth success. The HUT uses a comprehensive continuous improvement system for evaluation of the quality of all programming. A few of the areas the assessment process addresses are safety and accessibility, interaction, youth centered procedures, and high expectations of youth and staff. The Youth Program Quality tool also provides support in planning and improving areas of need identified in the assessment process.
